Resumen
This talk will address ball games in sport based on the evidence that in such complex systems multiple causes produce multiple effects. Following this perspective, for the study of collective behavior, more than analysing it by decomposing the game in multiple variables, it may be beneficial the search for a synthesis of it, by identifying the collective variables that describe and explain the game, in a way simpler than the game itself. Therefore, the search for patterns, as well as transitions among them, the identification of attractors and repellors that change over time, may contribute to the explanation of the ecological dynamics of decisional behavior. I will illustrate these ideas using studies conducted in team ball sports such as rugby and football, showing the same dynamical proprieties both at an individual and at a collective level.
